Lesser Known Solar Energy Facts

Here at Stealth Solar, we think highly of our customer base. That’s why we think it’s fair to assume that our blog readers to know at least a LITTLE bit about solar energy. In fact, we’re sure you’re all budding solar energy experts.

We all know solar energy is good for the population and the planet, and we know that it’s the renewable energy of the future. However, there are some fun and interesting facts about solar energy that a lot of people don’t know.

The amount of sunlight that reaches the Earth in one hour provides enough solar energy to populate the entire planet for a year. This is proof that even though we’re utilizing solar energy more than ever before, we can still do more.

Solar power can reach some of the most remote parts of the world in which electricity doesn’t work. Thanks to solar energy, millions of people who never had hot water or heat can now say that they do.

Solar energy history: Proof of solar energy usage can be found all the way back in the 7th century B.C. Evidence of using magnifying glasses to make fire with the power of the sun has been discovered during the time period.

While on the subject of early uses of solar energy, many people don’t know that the Greeks and Romans were the first people to use passive solar designs. They discovered this by noting that building windows which faced the South would allow for the sun to better heat and light the indoor areas.

If only a portion of the Sahara desert was covered with photovoltaic cells, it would generate enough solar energy to cover every power need on planet Earth.

Solar energy is clean energy. Ok, so maybe this solar fact is not so secretive, but that shows just how important it is. Like other forms of renewable energy, solar technology doesn’t use fossil fuels or any harmful methods to produce energy, making it one of the safest and healthiest ways we can (and should) power our world.
