Scientists believe that hydrogen in traces of water on the moon are from charged particles carried by solar winds. According to an article published today:
"Scientists analyzing grains of soil culled from lunar missions say the hydrogen in trace amounts of water on the moon's surface probably came from solar wind -- a stream of charged particles ejected from the sun's upper atmosphere that appears to have combined with oxygen on the moon's surface to form the OH hydroxyls."
